Insurance regulator warns of risks in premium financing

Hong Kong’s Insurance Authority has warned insurers about the inherent risks of premium financing, mainly in the current interest rate environment and urges its cautious use to enhance policyholder protection, Asia Insurance Review reported. The regulator received 28 complaints about premium financing in 2022 and 50 in 2023, with key issues raised being the lack of risk disclosure by intermediaries during the selling process and the misinterpretation of information.
