Insured losses from Jasper, New Year storms to surpass $489 million

According to the Insurance Council of Australia's initial estimates, insured losses from ex-tropical cyclone Jasper and the Christmas and New Year storms that battered certain states in December 2023 and early January are expected to exceed $743 million Australian ($489 million), Reinsurance News reported. Insurers have received a total of 64,937 claims related to the Christmas and New Year storms that lashed regions of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, and 7,473 claims related to cyclone Jasper that affected Queensland.
