New York fines insurers for violating mental health parity rules

Three health insurers – Aetna Inc., Oscar Health Inc. and Wellfleet Insurance Co. – must pay $3.1 million after allegedly violating federal and New York mental health parity and cost-sharing laws, Becker’s Hospital Review reports. The New York Financial Services Department found that the insurers had policies requiring members to illegally pay copays or coinsurance for mental health and substance use disorder benefits, according to a department news release.
