BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Willis buys Australian rival

Willis Australia, part of Willis Group Holdings P.L.C., has acquired Perth, Australia-based CKA Risk Solutions Pty. Ltd., Willis said in a statement Thursday.

The move is an effort to “transform” its Western Australia presence, Willis said in the statement.

CKA was founded in 2004 and operates with over 45 people in Australia from a single office in Perth.

The combined business, which will employ over 65 people with the two teams working together in the existing CKA office, will initially trade as Willis CKA.

CKA Director Stuart McLean will become Western Australia general manager for the newly combined business and will join the Willis Australasia operating committee, according to the statement

“The acquisition complements Willis' existing business by deepening its talent pool of risk experts focused on the global natural resources, industrial and commercial sectors, and by growing its client service capabilities in Western Australia significantly,” the company said in its statement.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“This is the biggest change for Willis Australia in many years and gives us a leading position in the western region, where we see high growth potential, especially in natural resources,” Roger Wilkinson, CEO of Willis Australasia, said in the statement.

Willis International, the group's overseas arm, reported second quarter commissions and fees of $917.0 million, off 1.4% from the year ago period. Six-month figures totaled $2.00 billion, off 1.1% from the year-ago period.
