Arthur J. Gallagher buys 2 mid-market benefits brokerage firms

Itasca, Ill.-based Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. announced this week that it has acquired a pair of mid-market brokerages to bolster its employee benefits operations.

Gallagher on Thursday said it has acquired Atlanta-based Argus Benefits and Indianapolis-based Gardner & White Corp. Terms of both deals were not disclosed, according to press releases from the company.

Since 1965, Gardner & White has provided retirement and group health benefits plan design and brokerage services, as well as risk assessment, communication and compliance consulting services for more than 800 health care organizations nationwide, according to the company’s website.

Argus Benefits, founded in 2001, specializes in brokerage and consultancy services regarding health and welfare benefit plan design, implementation and administration for midsize corporate clients in the southern United States, according to Gallagher.

According to Gallagher, Gardner & White will maintain its regional offices in Indianapolis; Dublin, Ohio; and St. Paul, Minn., under the direction of William Ziebell, executive vice president of Gallagher's employee benefit consulting and brokerage operations for the North Central region. Argus Benefits will maintain its offices in Atlanta and Jacksonville, Fla., under the direction of David Ziegler, Gallagher’s executive vice president employee benefit consulting and brokerage operations in the Eastern region.
