Claims paid for Japan quake damages reach $403 million

Data from the General Insurance Association of Japan showed that the insurance and reinsurance payouts for more than 67,000 claims resulting from the New Year’s Day Noto Peninsula earthquake have reached 61 billion Japanese yen ($403 million), Reinsurance News reported. The strong 7.5-magnitude earthquake caused major damage around and south of the epicenter, affecting the prefectures of Niigata, Ishikawa, Toyama, and Fukui.
