A coalition of 18 advocacy groups in Rhode Island, including the Rhode Island Medical Society and the American Cancer Society Action Network, is championing three bills to address rising health care costs, the Providence Journal reports. The "Protect Our Healthcare Coalition" aims to introduce a 2% assessment on health insurance premiums to raise an estimated $20 million for an "affordability fund." Other proposed legislation includes enshrining patient protections from the Federal Affordable Care Act into state law and raising the income threshold for those aged 65 and up to qualify for a Medicare Savings Program.
