Australian electricity provider sued over massive bushfire

The Building and Energy division of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety in Western Australia has sued state government-owned electricity provider Western Power Corp., alleging that its power lines sparked a major bushfire in Wheatbelt, ABC News reported. The bushfire burnt down 18,000 hectares of farm and bushland near Narrogin and Wickpein in February 2022. The authorities claim that the fire initiated when the company’s power line conductors clashed above dry grass.
