Sompo hires chief underwriting officer from Swiss Re

Sompo International Holdings Ltd. said Monday it has recruited former Swiss Re Ltd. executive Risa Ryan as chief underwriting officer and member of the executive team.
Ms. Ryan, who is based in Florham Park, New Jersey, reports to James Shea, CEO of Sompo International. She will create a global framework to ensure a consistent underwriting approach to meet the multinational needs of policyholders in the newly created role.
Ms. Ryan was previously global head of standard insurance products at Swiss Re Ltd. and prior to that served as senior vice president, head of analytics at QBE North America.
She was among Business Insurance Women to Watch honorees in 2018.
