Joan Schmit, professor of risk management and insurance at the University of Madison-Wisconsin, and Theresa Severson, vice president, insurance and risk, Kite Realty Group Trust, received the most prestigious awards during the awards luncheon at Riskworld on Monday.
Ms. Schmit was presented with the Harry and Dorothy Goodell Award by the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. The award recognizes an individual who has furthered the goal of the organization and the risk management discipline.
Ms. Severson was named Risk Manager of the Year for her work in risk management, including during the process of her company’s merger. She is credited with “navigating her organization through a wildly complex risk landscape while directly impacting growth and opportunity for her company,” said Jennifer Santiago, president of RIMS, during the awards presentation.

RIMS also announced that next year it will introduce an award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which will be presented at 2024 Riskworld in San Diego.
