BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

The winner of the 2023 Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge will come from one of three universities: Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina; British Columbia Institute of Technology, Burnaby; and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The teams selected, which were announced during the general session of the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc.’s Riskworld conference on Monday, will make their final presentations during an open session at the conference this afternoon, and the winning team will be announced at a Spencer Educational Foundation Inc. reception at the Omni Hotel tonight.

The Spencer Educational Foundation worked closely with Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority Chief Risk Officer Richard Graham to create a real-life case for the students to develop effective risk management strategies. Students were charged with identifying SEPTA’s top five risk management exposures and presenting solutions for the risks, including identifying three diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

From the original 24 entrants, eight teams were selected to present at the conference on Sunday before the judges selected the three finalists.

In addition to the finalists, presenting at Riskworld were students from:

  • California State University, Fullerton.
  • Peking University, Beijing.
  • Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia.
  • St. Mary's University, San Antonio.
  • The University of Georgia, Athens.
