BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Former CNA Financial Corp. CEO Tom Motamed died on Tuesday aged 74.

The cause was brain cancer.

Mr. Motamed, who was named chairman and CEO of CNA in 2009, retired from the insurer in 2016.

After his retirement from CNA, he served as a board member of American International Group Inc. from 2019, but stepped down for health reasons in January.

Mr. Motamed, who had a 45-year career in the insurance industry, joined Chubb Corp. as a claims trainee in 1977. He rose to become vice chairman and chief operating officer before leaving to take the top job at CNA.

CNA will make a donation to cancer research in Mr. Motamed’s honor, a spokeswoman said.

A CNA statement said: “The insurance industry has benefited in countless ways from Tom’s inspired and dedicated leadership over a remarkable 45-year career. Tom will be greatly missed.”

Mr. Motamed was a “steady presence during a critical part of AIG’s turnaround and transformation,” said Peter Zaffino, chairman and CEO of the insurer, in a statement. “Tom made a lasting impression on the insurance industry through his dedication to the agents, brokers, clients, and other partners who benefitted from his insights, expertise and judgment.”
