Protests against $900 million port project turn violent

Protests over the $900 million Vizhinjam port project in India, built by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd. in Kerala, turned violent on Nov. 27, resulting in injuries to more than 30 people, BBC News reported. Local communities have protested and blocked access to the port site for over 100 days, causing more than 800 million Indian rupees ($9.8 million) in damage so far. The protesters allege that the port is causing coastal erosion and destroying their livelihoods.
