Large rate hikes needed to compensate ILS investors properly: Fitch

U.S.-based Fitch Ratings Inc. has warned that the catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities markets could soon become unattractive for investors if they are not adequately compensated for the level of catastrophe losses they have taken over the past five years, Artemis reported. Fitch suggests significant rate hikes to help the ILS investors earn sufficient returns or else they might search for other earnings opportunities, which will in turn reduce the availability of risk capital for insurers and reinsurers.
