Shifting to monthly vs. annual out of pocket cap could lower costs: Study


Capping health insurance cost-sharing each month, rather than on an annual basis, could result in savings for consumers, according to a new research brief published in The Journal of the American Medical Association, reports Becker’s Payer Issues. The study, authored by researchers from Boston University, Emory University and Vanderbilt University, found that by instituting a $500 monthly limit resulted in a median 45.5% cost decrease for those whose monthly costs exceeded the cap, and these savings were greater for individuals with high-deductible plans.
