Ewing wins Goodell award, Curtis named RMOY

SAN FRANCISCO – Lance Ewing, vice president of enterprise risk management and operations for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, on Monday was awarded the Harry and Dorothy Goodell Award by the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc., the organization’s highest honor.

Mr. Ewing, a former president of RIMS and a well-known hospitality and gaming industry risk manager, received the award at a luncheon during Riskworld, the RIMS annual conference, held in San Francisco. The Goodell award recognizes an individual who has furthered the goal of the organization and the risk management discipline.

Courtney Davis Curtis, assistant vice president, risk management and resilience planning at the University of Chicago, was named Risk Manager of the Year. Ms. Curtis, a former broker, joined the University of Chicago in 2015. She was named one of the Business Insurance Women to Watch in 2020. Jana Utter, vice president, enterprise risk management at Centene Corp., was named to the Risk Management Honor Roll. The awards aim to raise the profile of the risk management profession and outstanding risk management programs.

The Ron Judd Heart of RIMS Award was presented to Lori Seidenberg, director and global head of real assets insurance risk management for Blackrock Inc. and president of the RIMS New York chapter. The award recognizes outstanding performance in furthering risk management at the chapter level.

The RIMS Rising Star Award was presented to Charles Vu, enterprise risk supervisor for California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund.

In the chapter awards, the RIMS Atlanta chapter was named the RIMS Chapter of the Year, and the Chicago, Nevada, Upstate New York and Washington chapters received RIMS ECHO Awards, which recognize chapters that have aligned their programming with RIMS strategic priorities.
