Rafael Docavo-Malvezzi

Axa XL, a unit of Axa SA, on Tuesday appointed Rafael Docavo-Malvezzi as global chief underwriting officer of its political risk, credit and bond business, and named Lian Phua as head of PRCB, Americas, following the departure of two executives.

Mr. Docavo-Malvezzi replaces Dan Riordan, who joined Bermuda-based private-equity-backed Vantage Group Holdings Ltd. as global head of political risk and credit in May.

Ms. Phua replaces Richard Abizaid, who has also left the company.

Mr. Docavo-Malvezzi most recently served as head of risk for Axa XL’s PRCB business and is based in New York. He will report to Stephen Ashwell, global chief underwriting officer for specialty risks.

As global chief underwriting officer for PRCB, Mr. Docavo-Malvezzi will drive global governance, underwriting guidelines and pricing standards across all political risk, credit and bond products, Axa XL said in a statement.

As head of PRCB, Americas, Ms. Phua, also based in New York, will lead the political risk, credit and bond underwriting teams in New York, Washington, D.C., Toronto and Bermuda. She will report to Alex Blanco, chief underwriting officer for specialty, Americas and to Mr. Docavo-Malvezzi.

Ms. Phua was previously underwriting manager for Axa XL’s global PRCB business. She was recently named a 2021 Business Insurance Break Out Awards winner.
