Chip shortage to hit earnings of Apple, Samsung

The global shortage of semiconductor chips is hitting the consumer electronics segment, with Apple Inc. expecting up to a $4 billion drop in revenue in the fiscal third quarter and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Business Standard reported. Samsung, which is both a producer and user of chips, said Thursday that component shortages will contribute to a slide in revenue and profit this quarter at its mobile division, which produces its Galaxy smartphones.
