The American Property Casualty Insurance Association said Tuesday that its fall annual meeting, originally slated for Orlando, Florida, will be held virtually Oct. 12-13.

“With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic being felt across the globe and corporate travel restrictions in place, both domestically and internationally, we made the decision to cancel the in-person component of our 2020 Annual Meeting,” APCIA President-CEO David Sampson said in a letter included with the organization’s statement.

The annual meeting is widely used by industry players as a venue for renewal and policy negotiations leading up to Jan. 1 renewals in both the primary and reinsurance sectors.

APCIA joins a growing list of industry associations that have canceled or altered meetings due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In April the 2020 Rendez-Vous de Septembre, the annual international reinsurance meeting held in Monte Carlo, Monaco, was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In March, the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. canceled its annual conference, which had been scheduled for  May 3-6 in Denver.

Also in March, the Captive Insurance Companies Association canceled its 2020 international conference scheduled for Rancho Mirage, California.
