AIG shuffles top accounting position as deputy CFO exits

American International Group Inc. said Thursday that Jonathan Wismer, the insurer’s deputy chief financial officer and chief accounting officer is leaving, effective March 31, and the insurer named his predecessor as his successor.
Mr. Wismer, who joined AIG in August 2018 after having previously worked as group controller for Zurich Insurance Group in Zurich, is leaving to “pursue other opportunities,” an AIG statement said. An AIG spokesman declined to comment further on Mr. Wismer’s departure.
Elias F. Habayeb, senior vice president and CFO-general insurance, was appointed to the additional role of principal accounting officer, effective March 9, the statement said. He will also serve as senior vice president, deputy CFO and chief accounting officer, AIG and CFO-general insurance.
Mr. Habayeb took on his role in the general insurance division in August 2018. Prior to that, he was senior vice president, deputy CFO, principal accounting officer and group controller from July 2015. He served as senior vice president, deputy CFO from April 2015. He previously worked at AIG and a subsidiary from 2005 to 2014, after spending 12 years at Deloitte.
He is one of AIG’s two deputy CFOs. Sabra Purtill was named to the newly established position of deputy CFO, head of treasury, investor and rating agency relations and corporate development at AIG in August 2019.
Mr. Habayeb and Ms. Purtill report to Mark Lyons, who was named AIG’s CFO in December 2018. In his CFO-general insurance role, Mr. Habayeb will continue to report to Peter Zaffino, president and global chief operating officer of AIG and CEO of general insurance.
