A U.S. subsidiary of insurance broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group P.L.C. has partnered with technology firm Altumai to develop solutions to reduce worker injuries in the food and agriculture industries, according to a statement released by the companies Monday.
Los Angeles-based Altumai provides internet-of-things driven, advanced analytics-enabled solution development, deployment and commercialization for the insurance industry.
JLT Specialty USA and Altumai will evaluate wearable devices and their potential for use in the agriculture industry, as well as develop recommendations and risk transfer solutions, JLT said in a statement.
“Wearable technologies, analytics, and IoT are converging to create a unique opportunity to reduce worker compensation risk and improve worker safety,” said Douglas Turk, Los Angeles-based chief marketing officer at JLT Group. “We are thrilled to be working with Altumai in this developing new world of IoT and Insurtech.”
An employee who was suspected of reporting his employer to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration may not have been given proper accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and might have been retaliatorily terminated, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday in reversing summary judgment granted by a lower court.
