Marsh appoints U.S., Canada president, shuffles execsReprints
Marsh L.L.C. announced Thursday that Martin South will head its U.S. and Canada business division effective Sept. 1 and that it would realign some of its international units.
Mr. South will succeed Rob Bentley, who will work on strategic initiatives across parent company Marsh & McLennan & Cos. Inc.'s Risk and Insurance segment, which includes both Marsh and Guy Carpenter & Co. L.L.C., Marsh said Thursday in a statement.
Mr. South will report to John Doyle, president of Marsh L.L.C., and be based in Marsh's New York office. He will oversee Marsh's U.S. and Canadian brokerage businesses.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. South had been CEO of Marsh's Asia-Pacific region since 2013.
Mr. South previously served as CEO of Marsh Europe and, prior to that, as CEO of Marsh U.K. & Ireland. Mr. South's industry experience also includes senior leadership roles at Zurich Insurance Group Ltd., where he was a member of the group management board, responsible for all of Zurich's operations outside North America and Europe.
“Martin is a highly accomplished and talented executive who's consistently produced results in important Marsh leadership roles around the world,” Peter Zaffino, CEO of Marsh and chairman of Marsh & McLennan's risk and insurance services segment, said in a statement.
Chris Lay, president and CEO of Marsh Canada, will report to Mr. South.
In connection with Mr. South's appointment, Marsh's businesses in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, which previously reported to Mr. South, have been realigned into three regional units reporting to Mr. Doyle.
