CHALLENGES FACING INDUSTRY: There is a huge amount of active capital, mostly from private equity, which is driving acquisition multiples to an all-time high ... Today's challenge is to stay focused on finding great companies. Well-managed brokers with good organic growth are still a great investment even at today's multiples.
FIRST INDUSTRY JOB: Various financial management functions at Frank B. Hall & Co. Inc.
WHAT SURPRISED ME: The industry has been consolidating for at least the last 40 years, but there seems like there is a never-ending supply of quality firms always out there.
ADVICE: Pay attention to the people, especially the producers.
OUTSIDE THE INDUSTRY, A DREAM JOB: Real estate developer 20 years ago. Go back 20 years and figure out the best places to build.
THING MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME: I'm an experienced whitewater rafter.
HOBBIES: Travel, sailing (and) golf.
WHEN I RETIRE: Spend time with family and friends.
