BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Calif. Senate committee votes to remove Calderon from insurance role

The California Senate's Rules Committee unanimously voted Tuesday to remove Sen. Ron Calderon as head of the Senate Insurance Committee pending the outcome of a federal investigation into bribery allegations.

The Democratic senator representing Montebello in Southern California has not been charged with a crime and he has expressed his innocence.

But according to a sealed affidavit made public by Al-Jazeera America L.L.C., the senator allegedly accepted tens of thousands of dollars from an undercover FBI agent.

He also is alleged to have accepted money from a hospital CEO to support legislation that would limit or delay workers compensation law affecting reimbursement amounts paid to doctors for performing spinal surgeries.

Tuesday's Rules Committee action also stripped Sen. Calderon of several other committee assignments.
