Christine Baker named director of Calif. industrial relations department

SACRAMENTO—California Gov. Edmund G. Brown has appointed Christine Baker, 62, to serve as director of the state’s Department of Industrial Relations, subject to approval by the state Senate.

Ms. Baker, whose appointment was announced Friday, has been the acting director and chief deputy director since April of the department, which includes the Division of Workers’ Compensation, Cal/OSHA, the Office of Self Insurance Plans and the Worker’s Compensation Appeals Board.

She has held Department of Industrial Relations positions since 1984, including serving as executive officer of the California Commission on Health Safety and Workers’ Compensation.
