BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers' educational foundation--Foundation for Agency Management Excellence, or FAME, announced this week that a $125,000 permanent scholarship, funded by Assurex Global in memory of Robert P. Ashlock, , will be awarded to Philadelphia's Temple University next spring.

The Assurex Global Robert P. Ashlock FAME Scholarship, will be granted annually at $5,000 to a risk management and insurance student at Temple. Mr. Ashlock was a former CEO of Columbus, Ohio-based Assurex.

The FAME scholarship program began with four scholarships in 2006 and has grown to nearly 100 scholarships at 16 universities including one international school, in the five years since. To be eligible for a FAME scholarship, students must be juniors or seniors with a 3.0 or higher grade point average, have a declared major in risk management and insurance and demonstrate financial need.

“Assurex Global is pleased to honor the memory of our first CEO, Robert Ashlock, with the funding of the Assurex Global Robert P. Ashlock FAME Scholarship at Temple University,” said Meg Allwein, chief quality officer for Assurex Global, in a statement.

“Assurex Global and the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers share a dedication to the insurance industry as a whole and particularly to the best agents and brokers in the business. The industry continues to attract strong and vibrant talent, due in no small part to risk management and insurance programs such as the world-class program at Temple. We are proud to support the students of this program, for they will be the industry leaders of tomorrow,” said Ms. Allwein.

“The Assurex Global Robert P. Ashlock FAME Scholarship is another example of the impact the brokerage industry is having on developing the next generation of insurance talent,” said Julia Kramer, senior vp of the Washington-based CIAB's leadership and management resources program and director of FAME, in the statement. “Over the past five years, the Council, with steadfast support from our member firms and alliances with organizations like Assurex Global, is making significant progress towards ensuring a positive future for our industry."
