LONDON—Private equity company Terra Firma Capital Partners III L.L.P. on Tuesday said it is considering making an offer for Lloyd’s of London insurer Chaucer Holdings P.L.C.
London-based Chaucer said Monday that it had “received a number of approaches regarding a possible offer for the company.”
Chaucer said there was no certainty that any of the offers would result in a bid being made for the company.
Chaucer said a further announcement would be made if and when appropriate.
In 2009, fellow Lloyd’s insurer Brit Insurance Holdings N.V. made an offer for Chaucer that was withdrawn after Chaucer did not recommend the deal to its shareholders.
Brit itself is now the subject of a takeover by holding company Achilles Netherlands Holdings B.V.
