BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Congressional staff to get insurance, risk education

Reprints

When one looks at the sometimes misguided legislation on insurance topics that comes out of Congress, a program that aims to help educate congressional lawmakers and their staffers about insurance and risk management is a brilliant idea.

The Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, founded in 1947 at Ohio State University, is conducting a series of seminars this June for federal policymaking staff. The foundation forged an agreement in 1993 with the National Conference of Insurance Legislators to educate state lawmakers, and now it’s helping inform federal legislators too.

The first seminar, on basic principles of insurance and risk management, was held June 14. On June 21, the foundation followed with one on the business of insurance. On June 28, which Griffith says is Insurance Awareness Day, the foundation will host a seminar on risk management and public policy.

Charles W. Griffith, the namesake of the foundation, was a life insurance agent from Columbus, Ohio, who lost his life in service during World War II.
