Aon Asia Pacific CEO dies
Successor to Bernard Fung has not yet been named Reprints
HONG KONG—Bernard Fung, the chairman and CEO of Aon Asia Pacific in Hong Kong, died May 27, Chicago-based Aon Corp. announced last week.
Mr. Fung, 57, led Aon's Asia-Pacific operations and was a member of its executive committee. He previously was CEO of Inchcape Insurance Brokers, an affiliate of Bain Hogg P.L.C., which Aon acquired in 1997, and before that served as head of Aon's Canadian retail brokerage operations.
A successor to Mr. Fung has not yet been named.
In a memo to Aon employees, President and CEO Greg Case wrote that “our dear friend and colleague impacted all he touched in a positive and inspirational way. What Bernie accomplished in his life through his ability to motivate others is exceptional and something we all should aspire to.”
Aon created a website to honor Mr. Fung at http://memorialwebsites.legacy.com/ bernardfung/homepage.aspx. The insurance brokerage also plans to support the China Literacy Foundation Ltd., a charity with which Mr. Fung was affiliated to promote the improvement of schools and education in China, as well as dedicate part of its July 15 “Aon United Global Day” to Mr. Fung.
A remembrance ceremony was held for Mr. Fung on June 7, attended by government officials, industry leaders and 1,000 Aon colleagues, including Mr. Case, according to Aon.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Fung's family requests well-wishers consider donating to a memorial fund of the China Literacy Foundation at www.clfl.org.
