Connecticut insurance commissioner named

HARTFORD, Conn.—Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell on Tuesday named Thomas R. Sullivan to be commissioner of the state's Insurance Department.

Mr. Sullivan, 45, of Southington, Conn., most recently worked as senior vp of Specialty Risk Services L.L.C., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. His former employer was the second-largest third-party administrator of property/casualty claims in 2006, according to a Business Insurance 2007 ranking

He succeeds Susan Cogswell, who was reassigned to a deputy commissioner post. She will focus on health care and affordability issues.

Mr. Sullivan's appointment is subject to legislative confirmation.
