Generali reports premium volume rise

TRIESTE, Italy— Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. has reported 2.4% growth in life and nonlife premium volume to €63 billion ($83.19 billion) last year.

The Trieste, Italy-based insurer posted a 7.7% increase in nonlife premiums to €17.9 billion ($23.60 billion).

The biggest premium increase was in Italy where Generali recorded a 16.7% increase at €5.34 billion ($7.04 billion). Premium growth in Italy reflected Generali's acquisition of Toro Assicurazioni in December last year.

Nonlife premiums were flat in Germany at €2.99 billion ($3.94 billion) and up 1.3% in France to €3.24 billion ($4.27 billion).

New life premiums in 2006 were 11.8% higher at €4.2 billion ($5.54 billion).
