Train crash payout in Taiwan may total over $17 million

Liability insurance payouts relating to the Taroko Express train crash near Hualien, Taiwan on April 2 that killed at least 51 people could total at least 500 million Taiwanese dollar ($17.52 million), Asia Insurance Review reported citing the Central News Agency. The compensation of at least TWD4.5 million includes TWD2.5 million in carrier’s liability insurance by Cathay Century Insurance Co. Ltd. The train is operated by the Taiwan Railways Administration.
