Japanese court orders shutdown of nuclear reactor located near volcano

Tomoyuki Tanoue, judge at the Hiroshima High Court in Japan, ruled that a reactor at the Ikata nuclear plant in Ehime prefecture should not operate because it is too close to an active volcano, ABC News reported. The injunction is likely to force the Unit 3 reactor to shut down after its regular inspection ends in February 2018. The court ruled that the plant's operator, Shikoku Electric Power Co., had underestimated the potential impact of a cauldron explosion at the Mount Aso volcano, situated 130km southwest of the plant.
