Kaikoura quake study likely to change seismic risk models

A study has found that the November 2016 Kaikoura earthquake triggered widespread geological changes in the Earth's crust, which will likely require changing current seismic hazard models, The New Zealand Herald reported. The conclusions of the study, conducted by New Zealand-based research institute GNS Science, are likely to affect building codes and the insurance sector globally with regards to precautionary measures and better prediction.
