Is a cell phone injury called cubital tunnel syndrome the new carpal tunnel syndrome?

The “cell phone elbow” injuries reported by people who use handsets for long stretches are on the rise, according to a story posted by Sci-Tech Today.

The symptoms sound very much like those associated with carpal tunnel, including tingling and aching in the hands and writs.

The cause of the problem is also similar to that leading to carpal tunnel, nerves are pinched from bending the hand over long periods. There is an ergonomic fix, though, and It may be time to encourage workers who use their cell phones extensively to consider headsets.

“Cubital tunnel is the second most common compression syndrome we see,” an occupational therapist told Sci-Tech Today.
