Peru declares emergency following two oil spills

Peru's General Directorate of Environmental Health has declared a 90-day water quality emergency in several northern districts in the nation following two oil spills, reported Fox News Latino.

The oil spills happened due to ruptures of Petroleos del Peru S.A.'s North Peruvian Pipeline. The emergency has been declared in Imaza, Manseriche, Pastaza and Morona district, among others. The first rupture of the pipeline in the Imaza-Chiriaco region and up to 3,000 barrels of crude was spilled over three days. The second spill affected a river and a tributary.
