Standard & Poor's Corp. has said that mergers and acquisitions would not reverse the continued capital growth and ongoing price pressure trends in the reinsurance market, reported Artemis.bm.
Dennis Sugrue, an official at the rating agency, said that consolidation remains at the top of reinsurers' agenda. S&P expects a few more deals to "come down the pipe" in the future. Mr. Sugrue said that "we don't think that these combinations are really going to affect the amount of capital in the industry" and "won't stop the tide in terms of reinsurance pricing."
