Nuclear damage treaty to increase costs to Japan's power sector

Sources said that Japan's power sector would have to pay up to 130 million Japanese yen ($1.08 million) in accordance with an international nuclear damage treaty, The Japan Times reports.

The member nations of the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage are the United States, Japan and four other nations.

Japan would contribute around JPY 4 billion ($33.4 million) when a nuclear accident happens in another member state.
