Canada: 5.7 million liters of light crude oil spilled in Lac-Mégantic

Quebec's Department of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks said that around 5.7 million liters of light crude oil were released into the air, water and soil, when a train carrying 72 tankers of 100,000 crude oil liters each derailed in Lac-Mégantic on Jul. 6 2013.

Twenty tankers were completely emptied, The Montreal Gazette reported.

The department said 51,200 gallons had been removed from the Chaudière River.
