Chubb says its U.S. storm losses may hit $310M

WARREN, N.J.—The Chubb Corp. said Tuesday that its aggregate loss estimates as a result of U.S. catastrophes in April and May are approximately $250 million to $310 million.

The insurer said the losses over the two-month period, which were due primarily to tornadoes and severe storms in the United States, will be reflected in its second-quarter results.

Tuesday's estimate was an increase from Chubb's estimate in the first quarter, when the Warren, N.J.-based insurer its estimated catastrophe losses for the month of April at $175 million to $225 million before taxes.
