Aspen names Cavoores co-CEO of insurance operations

HAMILTON, Bermuda—Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. said Tuesday that John Cavoores has been named co-CEO of its insurance operations, Aspen Insurance.

Mr. Cavoores, who has nearly 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, will share executive oversight of Aspen Insurance with fellow co-CEO, Rupert Villers, effective immediately, the insurer said in a statement. Mr. Villers is already serving as CEO of Aspen Insurance.

Mr. Cavoores has been a member of Hamilton, Bermuda-based Aspen’s board of directors since 2006 and will have a particular focus on Aspen’s casualty and professional lines businesses in his new role. Mr. Villers will focus on transportation-related lines of business, Aspen said in a statement, as well as financial lines with a joint responsibility for the insurer’s property business.

Mr. Cavoores will be based in New York and will have executive oversight for Aspen Insurance’s U.S. platform, while Mr. Villers, who is based in the United Kingdom, will be responsible for non-U.S.-based operations.

Mr. Cavoores most recently was a director of Alliant Holdings L.L.C. and was an adviser to The Blackstone Group L.P. until August. Previously, he was president and CEO of OneBeacon Insurance Co.
