OSHA increases civil penalties to adjust for inflation

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s civil penalties for workplace safety violations have risen to adjust for inflation, effective Tuesday.
The U.S. Department of Labor published a Federal Register notice on Tuesday outlining the civil penalty adjustments for OSHA and several other of its agencies. The department is required to annually adjust civil penalties under a 2015 law that significantly increased the maximum penalties allowed for violations.
The penalty for willful and repeat violations increased from $126,749 to $129,336. The fines for other-than-serious, serious and failure to abate violations rose from $12,615 to $12,934 per violation.
