SACRAMENTO—Employers and labor unions are close to cutting a deal to reform California’s workers compensation system while boosting disability benefits, according to reports published Thursday.
Representatives for large employers and labor have met throughout the past few months to hammer out details of legislation that is expected to be introduced soon, the reports state.
The goal is to reduce employers’ workers comp costs so that an increase in permanent disability benefits paid to injured workers will not increase employers’ premiums.
California’s legislative session is scheduled to adjourn on Aug. 31.
OAKLAND, Calif.—Workers compensation claim frequency fell 2.1% last year for private self-insured employers in California, according to the California Workers' Compensation Institute.
