BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Employers, unions close to deal to reform California workers comp system

Reprints

SACRAMENTO—Employers and labor unions are close to cutting a deal to reform California’s workers compensation system while boosting disability benefits, according to reports published Thursday.

Representatives for large employers and labor have met throughout the past few months to hammer out details of legislation that is expected to be introduced soon, the reports state.

The goal is to reduce employers’ workers comp costs so that an increase in permanent disability benefits paid to injured workers will not increase employers’ premiums.

California’s legislative session is scheduled to adjourn on Aug. 31.
