Berkley forms new operating unit

W.R. Berkley Corp. said Monday it has formed a new operating unit named Berkley Management Protection, and launched an online platform for agents and brokers.
The software platform will provide on-demand quoting and access to technical underwriting expertise, Greenwich, Connecticut-based Berkley said.
Charles E. Thompson has been named president of the new operating unit. Based in Hartford, he was previously vice president of select field management for Travelers Cos. Inc. and joined Berkley last year.
W. Robert Berkley Jr., president and CEO of W. R. Berkley Corp., said in a statement the new unit and platform will complement Berkley’s existing operations in the professional liability sector.
