The Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc.’s board of directors has approved the formation of a RIMS India chapter to support the country’s risk management community, effective immediately.
In a statement Thursday, the New York-based organization said with the addition of its India chapter it now has 80 official chapters, 65 of which are based in the United States and 15 internationally.
RIMS India chapter’s inaugural board of directors is led by president N K V Roop Kumar, chief of risk at SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd., based in Mumbai.
“RIMS’ newest chapter will become a unifying force. It will spark greater collaboration and support the already outstanding risk programs implemented across the country,” RIMS President Laura Langone said in the statement.

The Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc. and Mumbai, India-based J.B. Boda Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd. on Monday said they had agreed to jointly develop content, market research and education for risk professionals in India and organizations that conduct business in the country.
