Canopius hires chief underwriting officer from Sompo

Canopius Group Ltd. on Tuesday named former Sompo America Insurance Services LLC executive Lisa Davis to the newly created role of president and chief underwriting officer of Canopius USA, a unit of Lloyd’s of London insurer Canopius Group Ltd., effective Oct. 1.
Ms. Davis, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, was executive vice president, president for Asian Risk Solutions at Sompo International since 2016, the statement said Tuesday.
She will head all Canopius U.S. operations, including Canopius U.S. Insurance Inc. in Chicago and Canopius Underwriting Agency Inc. in New York, and report to Group CUO Mike Duffy, the statement said.
Canopius also plans to use the admitted paper of minority investor Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance to underwrite more U.S. business, the statement said.
