BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Love means never having to say you stole my car

It’s unlikely one would take on a romantic dinner with a person who allegedly stole your car.

But that’s what investigators in Cook County, Illinois, say happened in a bizarre insurance fraud scheme involving a former City of Chicago alderman, his love interest, an Audi and a stolen-car report.

Former Alderman Proco ‘Joe’ Moreno has been indicted on felony charges alleging he reported his luxury vehicle stolen after lending it to his girlfriend and making plans to take her out to dinner, according to an article posted Tuesday on the Block Club Chicago news website.

Prosecutors reported that in January Mr. Moreno invited a woman he was dating to his home and encouraged her to borrow the car, even sending a text after she drove off to remind her not to smoke in the vehicle.

The next day, he made two calls: one to report the car stolen and another to make dinner plans with the woman. He also later filed an insurance claim, insisting the car was stolen and, in a follow-up call to his insurer that was recorded, relayed the story that he had left his key in the car and must have either left his garage door open or someone scrambled a signal to open the overhead door automatically, according to the news report.
