BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

OUTLOOK FOR THE INDUSTRY: Technology will continue to play a big role in shaping the future of insurance. Companies that use technology to help come up with innovative solutions for their insureds will be better positioned to keep up with their insureds’ needs. It is important, though, that underwriters don’t lose sight of the relationship aspect of underwriting with the implementation of new technology.

GOALS FOR YOUR NEW POSITION: My goal for my new position is to continue to grow the Southeast region, with a strong focus on expanding broker relationships and winning target accounts.

CHALLENGES FACING THE INDUSTRY IN YOUR AREA: There is currently a shortage of skilled workers in the construction industry. Coupled with inexperienced workers and an aging workforce, this can drive up costs and losses for the companies.

FIRST EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD: My first job in the industry was as an underwriter at AIG Environmental.

ADVICE FOR A NEWCOMER TO THE INDUSTRY: While your technical skills and knowledge of the industry are important, newcomers should work on their soft skills, too, such as networking and communicating face to face.

DREAM JOB OUTSIDE THE INDUSTRY: I love throwing parties, so I think I would be an event planner if I didn’t work in insurance.

LOOKING FORWARD TO IN YOUR NEW JOB: I am looking forward to getting back to the South and expanding upon the relationships I already have.

COLLEGE MAJOR: Economics and geography

FAVORITE MEAL: I would like to say something fancy, but I love crabs and my mom’s macaroni and cheese.

FAVORITE BOOK: “Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness,” by Susannah Cahalan

HOBBIES: Cooking, brewing beer and biking

FAVORITE TV SHOW: “Criminal Minds”

ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON: We have two kids under 2, so we spend most Saturdays doing laundry and playing with our boys. In the summer, we like to go to the pool or beach.
