The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers has named John Huff president and CEO, effective Jan. 1.
Mr. Huff is the immediate past president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and a former director of the Missouri Department of Insurance. He succeeds Brad Kading, who is retiring after leading ABIR for 12 years, the Hamilton, Bermuda-based organization said Monday in a statement.
“For over 25 years, John has been a leader and coalition-builder in our industry,” Kevin O’Donnell, president and CEO of RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. and current chair of the ABIR, said in the statement. “He brings a deep understanding of the regulatory, legal, financial and operational challenges faced by insurance and reinsurance companies and the customers we serve.”
Mr. O’Donnell went on to thank Mr. Kading.
“Since assuming leadership of ABIR in 2005, Brad has been a major contributor to the Bermuda reinsurance market’s success,” he said in the statement. “We are grateful to Brad for his many contributions to the advancement of our organization and industry and wish him all the best as he begins this new chapter.”
Bermuda's insurers and reinsurers may fund a quarter or more of approximately $100 billion in aggregate insured losses from hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, according to preliminary estimates from the Association of Bermuda Insurers & Reinsurers, the association said in a statement late Tuesday.
