(Reuters) — American International Group Inc. is considering former company veteran Brian Duperreault, who heads Hamilton Insurance Group, as its new chief executive, CNBC said, citing a media report.
Former CEO Peter Hancock decided to step down after coming under pressure from shareholders and the insurer's board, following poor financial performance.
Mr. Duperreault oversaw the turnaround of Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc. after the 2008 financial crisis.
AIG said it does not comment on rumors, when contacted.
Mike McGavick, chief executive of XL Catlin, has refuted rumors linking him with the vacant CEO's role at insurer American International Group Inc., The Royal Gazette reported. "I have not been contacted by AIG, and have no knowledge of whether they have an interest in me or not," Mr McGavick said. He was one of the names suggested by The New York Times' Dealbook as a likely replacement for Peter Hancock, who resigned as chief executive of AIG on March 9.
